Workers more energy-efficient at home, study finds
Increasingly, housing associations are using technology to work from home, so it is interesting to learn that UK workers are much more likely to employ energy-efficient practices at home than they are in the workplace, according to the findings of a new report from ICT provider Logicalis.
More than 1,000 workers were questioned for the Logicalis study. Of these, around 94% said that they usually switched off domestic lights when they weren't needed and 85% said that they normally shut down their home computers after use; however, only 66% and 53% respectively were found to employ the same environmentally friendly behaviours at work.
A third of respondents reported that speed and productivity were considered more important in the workplace than energy efficiency. 57% suggested that their employers should lead by example on environmental issues; some 62% said that employers should offer incentives and rewards for workers who made a particular effort to save energy.
Cardinus has recently launched a new training and risk assessment program, 'Safety for Homeworkers'. The course enables organisations to ensure that their staff who are working from home (full time or just occasionally) are suitably trained and assessed in line with HSE guidance.
