Each short session will start with a brief discussion on the current level of knowledge of the participants to enable the trainer to build on that knowledge level. This will include developing an understanding of the law relating to vehicles and defects, and the likely penalties and implications involved.
Using a suitable vehicle provided by the client, the trainer will then demonstrate the required daily, weekly and monthly checks that a driver must carry out to ensure safety and reduce the risks of incidents and prosecutions. Typically the trainer will use a guide such as ‘POWDER’ as a reminder for drivers:
- Petrol (or diesel/lpg etc).
- Oil.
- Water (both coolant and screenwash).
- Damage caused since last check (or noted prior to using pool vehicle, etc).
- Electrics (lights & signals, wipers, horn etc).
- Rubber (condition of tyres, correct pressures, where to find the data).
At the end of the session there will be an interactive debrief covering the learning points from the session. Due to the short nature of these sessions no report or assessment sheet will be completed.
