DSE assessment services

All employers are required to identify and evaluate the risk of musculoskeletal and other risks to their staff, arising from the use of display screen equipment. Where you have employees who work from home or who ‘hot-desk’ you still have a duty to ensure the risks from their workstations are controlled, as they would be in the office.

Cardinus has developed Workstation Safety Plus as an on-line tool for carrying out these assessments, however, situations may arise where the assessment identifies a significant risk off injury or ill health that needs to be specifically assessed by a competent person.

Cardinus are able to provide a comprehensive service that includes one-on-one assessments by a competent person in addition to our established online programme. This would involve a review of an individual’s tasks and workstation leading to a specific risk assessment and recommendations for appropriate risk reduction measures.

The objectives of this service are to:„„

  • Identify those employees whose activities involve risks of injury or ill-health arising from work on display screen equipment. „„
  • Analyse the tasks being performed to identify potential injury sources. „„
  • Analyse the employee’s workstation to identify potential injury sources.
  • Evaluate the likelihood and severity of the employee’s exposure. „„
  • Propose measures to eliminate or reduce these levels to a level at which the risk is not significant. „„
  • Ensure that employees are aware of how to optimise their tasks and the set-up of their workstations.

The stages of our service are:

  1. Define the initial scope of the assessment project.
  2. Identify the employees whose activities are to be assessed.
  3. Identify and record the hazards associated with each activity.
  4. Identify and record the hazards arising from the employee’s workstation.
  5. Provide advice and instruction to the employee on how to organise the tasks carried out at their workstation.
  6. Provide advice & instruction on how to organise the tasks which they carry out at their workstation.
  7. Provide training for managers on how to ensure that their employees are not placed at unnecessary risk.
  8. Create an action plan to implement the above recommendations.
  9. Provide records of the assessment to enable progress with the action plan to be monitored.
