COSHH Assessment

This course aims to familiarise managers with the potential risk to health which may exist in the workplace and ways in which these can be controlled.

Large numbers of workers illnesses, through exposure to hazardous substances, including chemicals & pathogens, as a result of their work activities. The effects can be both short term and long term health problems, and in some cases can be disabling or fatal.

Legislation and best practice requires that a formal system is implemented to identify the health hazards which are inherent in your activities. The risks must then be assessed to allow an appropriate control strategy to be implemented based on a hierarchy of controls.

On completion of this course you will be able to:

  1. Recognise risks which may exist in the workplace from chemicals and pathogens.
  2. Recognise the possible effects of harmful substances.
  3. Understand potential routes of exposure.
  4. Evaluate risks based on severity and likelihood.
  5. Understand the hierarchy of controls.
  6. Develop and appropriate control strategy.
