Along with fleet driver training and driver risk assessment modules, Safe Driving Plus includes a personal action plan (User Action Report) empowering your employees to take ownership of their risk profile.

Safe Driving Plus provides a comprehensive driver risk assessment module designed to help you identify and intervene with those drivers exposed to higher levels of fleet risk. Each driver’s risk assessment data is stored in the powerful Cardinus risk management database, PACE, where it can be easily managed by you and your management team.

Following the completion of the driver risk assessment, the User Action Report empowers your drivers to take direct responsibility for any issues. Based on the driver risk assessment and User Action Report, drivers will either undertake e-learning or be recommended for in-vehicle driver awareness training.

Safe Driving Plus online e-learning

The objective of the fleet driver training is to reduce your driver’s risk of being involved in an accident by helping them to drive more safely. The informative interactive modules are designed to engage with your drivers, using a combination of interactive sequences, tests and quizzes to ensure longer-term knowledge retention.

Safe Driving Plus in-vehicle awareness fleet driver training

Fleet driver training sessions are normally conducted on either a one-to-one half-day, or two-to-one full day basis. Cardinus will arrange to meet your drivers wherever they are located. The trainer will help drivers to develop the strategies required to improve risk perception and decision-making.

Learning objectives:

To identify behaviours/practices leading to loss or injury.
To introduce ‘best practice’ coaching appropriate to all sources of identified risk.
To reinforce the competence of existing behaviours/practices (strengths).
To improve fuel economy and extend component life.
To determine areas where further support/fleet driver training may be necessary.

At the end of each fleet driver training session the trainer will provide each participant with a risk profile that will highlight the strengths and risk factors identified during the drive, note any progress made and pinpoint areas that require further fleet risk management attention.

Driver licence checking

Good fleet risk management includes a driving licence checking policy. To effectively manage your occupational road risk, licence checking needs to be a part of every driver risk assessment.

‘Grey fleet’ business insurance and MOT checking

The process mirrors the DVLA licence checking process but combines Motor Insurer’s Bureau (MIB) information and Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) with manual processes to create an on-going datelined procedure to ensure continued compliance in this area and reduce fleet risk. These checking processes save you many hours and reduce your organisation’s occupational road risk.

Electronic driver permit

An electronic driver permit provides a clear, visual and auditable record of the status and eligibility of individual drivers and evidence of their driver risk assessment, training and licence validation, significantly reducing your occupational road risk. Grey fleet drivers must have a valid MOT certificate, appropriate business insurance and vehicle service validation. Permits should be renewed annually and reminders are provided in advance of their expiry.

Outsourced management

Most of our clients want us to manage the whole fleet risk management process for them, allowing them to concentrate on their core business and still meet all of their fleet-related duty of care and fleet risk management requirements. Some clients want to run the programme themselves and we provide full and on-going training on the systems to meet all fleet risk objectives.

Driver CPC compliance

For large and medium goods vehicle and minibus drivers who, under an EU Directive, need to gain their Certificate of Professional Competence, Cardinus runs a series of Driver CPC training sessions at convenient locations around the country. They enable your drivers to complete the mandated 35 hours of refresher training every five years. This is usually broken down into seven hours of training in one day per year.
